When I first found out I was expecting baby #2 I had many thoughts and emotions but most of my thinking kept coming back to how will my 2 year old handle having a new baby in the house? After some internet searches trying to find ways to help with the transition, I quickly decided we would get him a gift from the new baby.

I want him to feel special right away and hey, the baby isn’t getting anyone else a gift! My hope is this will help with the unavoidable jealousy that will likely come, he was an only child with all the attention for almost 3 years.

I came up with a list of gift ideas for your new baby to give your toddler- as well as what my new addition got for his or her big brother!

Books

There are a few really great books out there about welcoming a new baby and they are on a toddler level. We want our big brother or big sister to feel proud of their new role and excited! I will link the books below- all you can find on amazon.

This book is a classic and helps big brother or sister learn what to expect when the baby comes home.

This one doubles as a keepsake book as well, it has a place in the front to write a little message from the baby.

Classic big sister and big brother books. These help focus on how to be a helper when baby comes. Our baby got their big brother this book as part of his gift!

Part of a 4 book series, this sweet book is about a toddler asking lots of questions and getting to know more about the new baby in the family.

Toys

Think about what your toddler loves at the time. It doesn’t have to be a super thought out personalized gift. If your toddler loves Paw Patrol or Mickey Mouse toys with those themes will make them feel special! Here are some great toy ideas that are easy on your wallet too-

My toddler is obsessed with anything trucks, tractors and construction. So we chose to get him a remote control tractor to go with his big brother book. He loves to use remote control anything so this will be a great gift he can play quietly with while we need to be inside.

Keepsakes

For the sentimental mama, something your toddler can grow up to appreciate is always a good idea. There are a lot of sweet keepsake gifts that can help your older sibling remember what it was like stepping into their role as big brother or sister. Here are some of my favorites:

Also available in “me and my sister” a cute photo frame to put the first picture of siblings meeting in to keep forever!

I love these name puzzles, super cute and fun for toddler to play with- doubles as a keepsake! I also love these

You can’t go wrong with personalized jewelry, something adorable and something they can keep forever.

A classic gift, a personalized jewelry box. You can engrave a name or saying- 1st gift from baby!

Clothes

Who doesn’t love a “big bother” “big sister” tee? Nothing will make your toddler more proud than to have that title and why not get them some clothes with the saying?

This adorable set comes in different color options as well as a long sleeved option

Perfect for the truck loving big brother! He will be so proud of his new shirt.

This comes in so many different colors- I am obsessed with the tie-dye! I know this is why God did not make my first child a girl- he knew I’d be poor after shopping for all the amazing girl clothes

Another cute set- comes in two color options and tons of size options- perfect for the sister who can’t wait to match.

The transition from being the baby to having a new baby will be easy for some and challenging for others. I love the idea of a gift from the new baby to help ease the transition and start the bond your babies will have for life.

I hope these ideas helped you think of a present perfect for your new big brother or sister! Leave a comment for what you did to help your toddler with a new baby!
