When I first became a mom almost 4 years ago, I knew I wanted to breastfeed which meant pumping when I went back to work. I knew literally NOTHING about pumps. And honestly the only place I knew of to ask advice was my dr’s office.

Unfortunately, the doctor’s office wasn’t a whole lot of help when it came to breastfeeding and pumping advice. I was told where to get a pump (for FREE through medical insurance!) but that was about it! I didn’t know anything about lactation consultants or where to learn about pumps.

So, I settled on a Spectra with my first baby. It was covered 100% through my medical insurance and came with some accessories so that’s what I used. It was fine overall. I used it at work (I am a dental hygienist) but didn’t always get the full amount of time I needed due to having a super busy schedule.

My first experience with breastfeeding and pumping went great but I ended up being a “just enougher.” I really believe that had a lot to do with my pumping situation and lack of knowledge.

With my second baby on the way, I was determined to make this time around more successful overall. So, knowing I would be going back to work after about 10 weeks, I did TONS of research about breast pumps and keeping your supply. After a lot of going back and forth between a few, I settled on a regular pump (Motif) and the momcozy

To say I was skeptical about the Momcozy would be an understatement. I had not heard the greatest things about hands free pumps from some of my mom friends and mom groups I was in. I also got super mixed reviews online.

Here is my very honest review about the Momcozy S12- the good and the bad!

Momcozy S12 PROS

Before I start with things I like about this pump- I will say it has been a gamechanger for me! I LOVE the freedom that comes with using a hands free pump and believe it has made all the difference in my pumping journey so far.

DISCLAIMER: This review is my personal take on this pump and reviews my experience only. My views might not be the same as yours and I might have different results from this pump than you as everyone’s body is different!

So, what I love about this pump:

  • Freedom of not being stuck to a wall plug- I can LITERALLY walk around, drive, do chores, you name it while pumping. I never knew this was possible!
  • Comfortably fit in a nursing bra- MUST be a snug fitting bra to help the pump fit tight and suction properly
  • Many different suction settings (also a massage setting)- just like a wall pump!
  • Shuts off by itself after 30 mins- I love this because if I am on my lunch break or doing chores around the house, I can just pump and not even think about it, which keeping my brain off of pumping helps my milk output!
  • Empties breastmilk fully and get the same ounces as my wall pump- I do use this pump for the full 30 mins and normally use my wall pump for around 20. Wearing it an extra 10 mins for me is so worth it because of the freedom.
  • Not many pump parts, makes for easier cleaning
  • Can wear it at work and not be stuck in a little room by myself multiple times a day
  • COST- this pump is a FRACTION of the other hands free name brand pumps you see on the market. I personally have not tried the higher price pumps but I don’t feel the need to. The Momcozy covers all the bases for me.

Momcozy S12 CONS

For the most part, I really love this pump. There are a few things that I would add to the CONS list though. In my opinion, these things could be improved with the hands free pump-

  • Can be difficult to position- Since the flange is actually a large part of the pump, it can be difficult to see where the nipple is positioned when you put it on. I have pumped in the wrong position with this pump and it caused me to have a small laceration around my nipple! Not fun. So now if I am unsure is my positioning is correct, I use my phone flashlight to see better. You do have to act fast though since the cup gets foggy pretty soon after beggining your pump.
  • Suction only works well with tight fitting bra- I learned this the hard way. I had on a sports bra that was not very tight and got about 1/2 the output I would when I was wearing the correct fitting bra. It really does make a difference!
  • Is more noisy than quiet- Being a dental hygienist, I work with my chest directly over my patient’s head all day long! I would not be comfortable trying to pump while seeing a patient because there is no way it is discrete due to the noise.
  • Bulky, so it’s no secret you are wearing them.
  • Can be difficult to attach the motor at times making the suction not very strong- the motor and pump pieces are separate. You connect the motor when you are ready to pump. It has to fit just right and be tight enough to create a good suction. Sometimes that isn’t so easy!
  • Does not stay charged for long- If I am using my Momcozy all day at work (pumping 4-5 times) I will have to fully recharge the motor batteries at least one time during the day. I am used to my wall pump staying charged up for multiple days so this is kind of a bummer. I have to remember my charger when I am going to work or the battery will not work through the whole day.

I have been using this pump multiple times a week for 6 months. Overall, I would 10/10 recommend the Where to buy?

So now that you have decided you NEED this pump, where do you buy it?

I got mine from Amazon- here!

When I purchased my Momcozy a few months before my due date in 2022, Amazon was having a sale on them and after many days of research I decided to go for it. I got both my pumps for a little over $100! That’s a steal!

Amazon also has a ton of accessories from replacement parts to flange inserts- also an amazing lactation massager. All in one place.

There are multiple versions of the Momcozy, so make sure you check them all out to see which one will work for you!

Walmart also sells Momcozy pumps and some accessories. They do have all the versions of the pumps, but not many of the other Momcozy products you can find on their website.

The most obvious place to purchase is from the
