When my toddler was a baby he would eat ANYTHING. He ate literally every vegetable, fruit, meat, whatever I put on his plate ended up in his belly. And all over his face!

As he has gotten older, he has become a little more opinionated about food and what he will and won’t eat.

I am totally fine with him choosing certain things with each meal. I love that it helps him make an independent decison and he is more likely to eat things that he has chosen.

With that being said, I am still in charge of the meal making and I want him to be eating healthy, whole foods with nutrients his little body needs. I will normally decide what the main part of the meal is. Then he can choose a side- weather it be fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt or a vegetable we have.

Normally his go-to is a “newt bar” (fig bar)- that is what he says anytime you ask him what he wants to eat, the kid would 100% live off those if we let him.

In this post, I am going to show examples of what my toddler ate every morning for a week! AND (with the exception of my toddler’s gummy vitamin and a sweet treat brought over by a neighbor) I got everything from Aldi!

Why am I so obsessed with Aldi?

Well, there are multiple reasons really, but I started shopping there during the covid pandemic when the world shut down and I wasn’t working. The dental office I work at was forced to close leaving us with one income and a 6 month old baby to care for and worry about feeding (and diapering).

I started looking at ads for groceries and shopping around to find the best deals on the stuff we eat every week. Then I discovered Aldi. They have a TON of healthy, organic, CHEAP food there that we actually eat all the time.

So, then it became my weekly grocery haul location. A couple other reasons why Aldi is the best:

  • Not a ton of choices (which helps me spend way less money on already cheap items)
  • Produce section is the bomb- way more affordable than my local Kroger store, even organic produce!
  • Most, if not all of Aldi brand food is dye free (this is something that has only recently been important to me- we are trying to go as dye free as possible with our food)
  • They have recipes for the foods they sell right on their website!

Ok, I’ll stop raving about it now but seriously, Aldi is the best. I can feed my toddler food that is a healthier alternative to some of the other big name stores and stay on budget.

Let’s get to the meals!

Here is my week worth of toddler meals, with all Aldi ingredients!

Monday

  • Fresh, cut pineapple
  • Whole wheat sandwich thin, cut into 4’s and topped with cinnamon and all natural peanut butter
  • Scrambled eggs with fresh spinach, cherry tomatoes, diced mushrooms and cheddar cheese

Tuesday

  • Scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese
  • Cinnamon raisin granola
  • Fresh cut oranges

Wednesday

  • Fresh cut kiwi
  • Scrambled eggs mixed with ground sausage and cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 biscuit (baked from a can) with honey in the middle

Thursday

  • Fresh sliced strawberries
  • Scrambled eggs with diced green pepper, diced tomatoes and cheddar cheese
  • Lightly salted rice cake topped with peanut butter

Friday

  • Scrambled eggs with pink salt and ground pepper
  • Fresh sliced strawberries and blackberries cut in half
  • One piece of bacon and diced ham cooked on cooktop grill

Saturday

  • Fresh sliced strawberries
  • Scrambled eggs with spinach, diced tomatoes and diced mushrooms
  • Aldi brand fruit rounds cereal with unsweetened almond milk (weekends are a little more relaxed with some choices)

Sunday

  • Fresh sliced strawberries
  • Scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese
  • 2 sausage links
  • (Literally the only thing NOT from Aldi on our plate this week) Pumpkin spice cake a sweet neighbor brought us right before breakfast so of course my toddler had to have some!

There you have it! My toddler loves to have fresh fruit with every meal, it is one of the things I let him choose. AND with the awesome prices at Aldi- we always have a lot of choices!

As you can see, we also eat a lot of eggs around here. When we move to the farm (hoping our house will be done soon!) We plan to get our own chickens for eggs. But in the meantime- the eggs at Aldi are good quality and not pricey.

I will usually make up 3 or 4 eggs every day and my toddler and I will share them. He pretty much eats exactly what we eat for every meal! We started that when he first started eating whole foods. I decided early on I am not making different dinners every single night so we do it this way. I think it has helped him be less picky also!

Hopefully this helped give you some ideas for toddler breakfast. This was a fun post to write, I can’t wait to share some of my lunch and snack ideas soon!

I didn’t include my toddler’s drinking cups in this blog (99% of the time it’s just water) but these are the cups we use, they don’t leak *unless they are thrown on the floor*!
